“Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy.”
Dr. Leo Buscaglia, author and motivational speaker
An excess of time spent fretting over your business will not protect you from hardship and challenges. In fact, just as Dr. Buscaglia warns in his quote, you only risk squandering the joy of today with the worries over tomorrow.
Whenever I am concerned over the future of my business, I try and refocus myself on the actions I can take today. While the actions I take today may not prevent tough times, I take comfort in the following:
1. My work itself has a pleasing and therapeutic “flow” to it which distracts me from anxiety.
2. Doing something, however imperfect, always beats doing nothing. Even if it’s a mistake, at least I’ll learn.
3. I have faith that while I may not know how my positive actions will benefit me, I know that no business has suffered for someone putting honest effort into it. Worrying “if it’s worth it” is just a different form of worry.
4. Making a positive impact on others is never a waste, and if I am ever visited by misfortune, I will take some comfort in the good I was able to do in the moment.
Don’t let worry rob you of today’s joy.
Hi Scott,
Thank you for your Thoughts, you have given me some good advice which I print and give to my agents. We all need imput from others to keep us motivated and uplift our thoughts and attitudes.
Dr. Buscaglia’s article on worrying really hit home. I keep reminding myself to “Think what you have done for buyers and sellers to help them through situations”.
Thank you again Scott,
