This week we continue our vocabulary-building series, “The Closing Word.” Each week we provide a new word to help build your vocabulary and show you an example of how to use it.
This week’s closing word:
Pronounced: (MORE-ass)
Noun:
1. a soft wet area of low-lying land that sinks underfoot
2. a complicated or confused situation.
From Vocabulary.com: “The noun morass comes from the Dutch word moeras, meaning “marsh” or “fen.” More metaphorically, just like its synonyms mire and quagmire, morass refers to anything that bogs you down, overwhelms you, and hinders your progress.”
Example:
“The builder accidentally built the home straddling the property line, and the legal morass which ensued was truly epic.”
