“When you come to a fork in the road, take it.”
Yogi Berra, (May 12, 1925 — September 22, 2015), American professional baseball catcher, manager, & coach.Yogi Berra was perhaps the most colorful major league player and coach the game has ever seen. While a remarkable catcher, he was equally famous for his unique brand of wisdom. Here are just a handful of “Yogi-isms” selected from this collection of 50 greatest Yogi Berra quotes:
“We made too many wrong mistakes.”
“Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical.”
“I knew the record would stand until it was broken.”
“Little League baseball is a very good thing because it keeps the parents off the streets.”
One of the best lessons we can learn from Yogi is that we should never be afraid to be our authentic self. Yogi was an unselfconscious original. If some of his creative observations drew a laugh, it never seemed to bother him. He lived fully and without reservations.
We can expend a lot of energy trying to craft an image of ourselves or hone a persona which comes across as more sophisticated or serious. Why not recoup that effort by simply being you? Relax and be the true version of yourself. And remember, if you say something a little foolish you can always rely on Yogi’s classic defense: “I never said most of the things I said.”
