One of the benefits of volunteering in your community is the opportunity it presents to meet new people while you’re making a difference. (We’ve talked about how Volunteering is Business Development in the past.)
But how do you motivate people to increase the time the spend volunteering, or even get them to volunteer in the first place? If you’re trying to organize a community effort, what tools do you have at your disposal to get people engaged and active for a cause?
Social media may have an answer. We all know how people love to use social media to share their interests. Reward Volunteers has created a free iPhone app and web widget anyone can use that allows volunteers to log time, post to Facebook, and earn rewards for themselves and the organizations they serve.
While you may say, “people should volunteer out of the goodness of their heart,” you shouldn’t underestimate the powerful good which can be accomplished when people know their good deeds will go shared and rewarded. And is there any harm in rewarding people if they’re out there serving the community?
Reward Volunteers is brand new, but the early signs are promising. To learn more about how it works and how you might get it to work for your organization, check out their website.
