As some of our long-time readers know, we’re big fans of the book “The Tools” by Barry Michels and Phil Stutz. As described by the publisher, “The Tools is a dynamic, results-oriented practice that defies the traditional approach to therapy. Instead of focusing on the past, this groundbreaking method aims to deliver relief from persistent problems and restore control–and hope–to users right away.” The book focuses on visualizations which help you get unstuck, control anger, express yourself, combat anxiety, and find discipline. In our humble opinion, it’s both an inspiring and practical read.
The duo’s follow-up book to “The Tools” has just been released, and after a first-read, we’re very impressed. The title is “Coming Alive: 4 Tools to Defeat Your Inner Enemy, Ignite Creative Expression & Unleash Your Soul’s Potential.” In it, Michels and Stutz expand the toolbox with four more tools designed to help you label and defeat negative impulses and habits.
Even if you’re a little skeptical of the techniques in this book, we urge you to consider it with an open mind. If nothing else, the book will help you recognize triggers which send you down bad pathways and help you reframe your reaction to those events.
