For years I’ve considered scanners a necessary evil. In my pursuit of a greener, paperless office, I’ve had to contend with a parade of blocky, buggy, and all-around cantankerous scanners.
Fortunately, there’s a useful little tool for the iPhone (and other mobile devices) which may have finally eliminated my need for a traditional scanner. It’s called TurboScan, and for $1.99 it puts the power of a scanner into my trusty phone. It’s pretty simple: You use TurboScan to snap a picture of the paper, the app turns it into a PDF, and then you can share it with others or simply backup the scan to your computer or the cloud.
If you use an iOS device like an iPhone, you can learn more about TurboScan in the Apple Store.
If you’re looking for a different, free alternative for iOS, Glenn Edwards of Realty Executives in New Jersey turned us on to Genius Scan, which you can check out here.
What About Android & Blackberry?
There’s good news for you Android and Blackberry users, too. While TurboScan isn’t available for Android, there are similar apps available. One popular version is CamScanner. It’s free for a limited version and only $5 for an unlimited version.
For Blackberry, check out PDF Scanner ($1.99).
I just wanted to chime in on one point. You say, “Files are saved in a folder” with DropBox, this is true. Files must be saved in a specific location. But with SugarSync, any file can be flagged to be sync’d amongst your multiple devices.
