Gmail frequently gives you powerful options for configuring your email account. Now Google has announced a new upgrade to Gmail which will allow you to automatically sort email messages into tabs such as “Social,” “Promotions,” “Updates,” and “Forums.”
The goal: Put your important messages front and center while putting commercial, social, and “automatic email notification” noise in the background.
From Google:
“On the desktop, the new inbox groups your mail into categories which appear as different tabs. You simply choose which categories you want and voila! Your inbox is organized in a way that lets you see what’s new at a glance and decide which emails you want to read when.”

If you’d like to dive in right away, click the little Gear icon on the top right side of your Gmail interface in your browser and select the option, “Configure inbox.”
Fortunately, you’re not forced to make the change. Experiment and see if streamlines your Gmail experience!
