It seems ironic that when sustainability and recycling are such hot topics of conversation that so many of the devices we use on a day-to-day basis are more easily replaced than repaired. How often have you wanted to fix an appliance or smartphone only to hear, “It’s cheaper to replace”?
iFixit is a company which disagrees. In fact, they have a database of over 25,000 repair guides covering everything from your old iPhone to your BMW. The angle? They help sell you the parts and tools you need to do the job. The elbow grease is up to you.
If you run into trouble along the way, iFixit also has an answers forum where you can reach out to others for help. This includes a whole section on “tear-downs” which shows you exactly how to access all those shiny devices which don’t even look like they open.
If you like to tinker, want to learn more about how your gadgets work, or simply love the do-it-yourself ethic, check out iFixit:
