File this under “marketing ideas to watch in 2012.” There’s a new web service available which allows people who visit your website to download free digital items by “paying with a Tweet.” Have an ebook you give away? A free report? This service enables you to give your visitor a copy of the item of value you’re offering, provided they Tweet about where they found it.
In our economy, attention is undoubtedly one of the most valuable assets. While we’re not sure how much this service will take off in 2012 (it’s free, by the way), it is an interesting idea. From the website:
“In today’s world the value of people talking about your product is sometimes higher than the money you would get for it. ‘Pay with a Tweet’ is the first social payment system, where people pay with the value of their social network. It’s simple, every time somebody pays with a tweet, he or she tells all their friends about the product.”
There’s a video on the website which explains the concept in detail, and there are free tools to use to help you try out the idea.
Can it work for real estate? Perhaps. It depends, of course, on having something people would normally register for in the first place. (Perhaps a creative agent will come up with a great way to get this to work for listing promotion, MLS searches, or open houses. Could it be you?)
If you’re an early-adopter of social media tools, or would simply like to experiment with this free service, check out Pay With a Tweet.
