This week we continue our vocabulary-building series, “The Closing Word.” Each week we provide a new word to help build your vocabulary and show you an example of how to use it.
This week’s closing word:
Pronounced: (uh-MASS)
Verb:
1. collect or gather
2. get or gather together
Synonyms: assemble, accumulate, conglomerate, cumulate, gather, pile up
From Vocabulary.com: “Although the word amass should not be confused with “a mass,” as in the thing you never want to hear has been found on your lung, they both derive from the Latin massa ‘lump.’”
Example:
“The market was so short on inventory and demand was so hot, we were able to amass a dozen competing offers within twenty-four hours of the open house.”
