This week we continue our vocabulary-building series, “The Closing Word.” Each week we provide a new word to help build your vocabulary and show you an example of how to use it.
This week’s closing word:
Pronounced: (BUY-ohm)
Noun:
a major biotic community characterized by the dominant forms of plant life and the prevailing climate; a large naturally occurring community of flora and fauna occupying a major habitat, e.g., forest or tundra.
From Vocabulary.com: “A biome is a specific environment that’s home to living things suited for that place and climate. A desert biome is great for a lizard, but a koala needs the leafy greens of a forest biome.”
Example:
“Don’t move for a different climate alone; be sure to familiarize yourself with the entire biome you’re considering, especially local plants and insects.”
