The Closing Word: Fortuitous

Image of Closing Word IconThis week we continue our vocabulary-building series, “The Closing Word.” Each week we provide a new word to help build your vocabulary and show you how to specifically implement it in business. A well-spoken, intelligent agent inspires confidence with clients and colleagues alike.

This week’s closing word: fortuitous

Pronounced: (for-TOO-i-tuss, for-TYOO-i-tuss)

Adjective:

1. Happening by accident or chance rather than design.
2. Happening by a lucky chance; fortunate.

Note: Strictly speaking, a “fortuitous” event doesn’t have to have a positive outcome, though it is often used to describe fortunate events.

Example:

“It was completely fortuitous that the buyer discovered the leak in the basement. The home inspector had missed it due to the recent drought.”
