Image of Closing Word LogoThis week we continue our vocabulary-building series, “The Closing Word.” Each week we provide a new word to help build your vocabulary and show you an example of how to use it.

This week’s closing word:

Fungible

Pronounced: (FUN-juh-bull)

Adjective:
of goods or commodities; freely exchangeable for or replaceable by another of like nature or kind in the satisfaction of an obligation

Noun:
a commodity that is freely interchangeable with another in satisfying an obligation

From Vocabulary.com: “Fungible comes from a Latin phrase meaning “to serve in place of” and that’s what something that’s fungible does: serves in place of what it’s exchanged for.”

Example:
“Some people mistakenly believe real estate agents are fungible, given the similarity of their role in a transaction. Quality of service and level of experience are major differentiators, however.”
