This week we continue our vocabulary-building series, “The Closing Word.” Each week we provide a new word to help build your vocabulary and show you an example of how to use it.
This week’s closing word:
hibernal
Pronounced: (high-BURN-ull)
Adjective:
characteristic of or relating to winter
From Vocabulary.com: ”You can talk about anything wintry as being hibernal — like the snow-covered hibernal woods — but it most often describes an animal that hibernates during the coldest months. For example, a chipmunk’s long, deep winter nap can be called a hibernal sleep. The root of hibernal is the Latin word hibernalis, which means “wintry,” from the root hiems, “winter.”
Example:
“Wouldn’t it be nice to own a hibernal vacation property, like a cozy cabin in the Blue Ridge mountains?”
