This week we continue our vocabulary-building series, “The Closing Word.” Each week we provide a new word to help build your vocabulary and show you an example of how to use it.
This week’s closing word:
Pronounced: (JEYEb)
Verb:
1. be compatible, similar or consistent; coincide in their characteristics
2. shift from one side of the ship to the other
Noun:
an aggressive remark directed at a person like a missile and intended to have a telling effect
From Vocabulary.com: “To jibe with someone is to agree with them. Jibe can also mean “be compatible with or similar to.” If two people jibe, they get along quite well. To gibe is to sneer or heckle, but to jibe is to agree. Funny thing is, though, jibe is an alternate spelling of gibe, so surprise! People get them mixed up.”
Example:
“When I jibe with the buyer’s agent, the entire transaction feels like so much less work.”
