This week’s closing word:

meretricious

Pronounced: (mer-i-TRISH-uhs)

adjective:
1. Based on pretense or insincerity. Apparently attractive but having in reality no value or integrity.
2. Appealing in a cheap or showy manner: tawdry.

Example:
“I always advise sellers to beware of the meretricious promises made by agents eager to win a listing at any cost. For instance, an unrealistically high sale price is one thing to look out for.”
