Pronounced: (ob-SEE-QWEE-us)

Adjective:
1. attempting to win favor from influential people by flattery (lacking sincerity)
2. attentive in an ingratiating or servile manner (submissive or fawning in attitude or behavior)

Synonyms:
1. bootlicking, fawning, sycophantic, toadyish, insincere
2. servile

Examples:

1. “While everyone enjoys a few compliments, the home inspector’s impartial eye was not distracted by the owner’s obsequious comments.”

2. “The agent, eager to win the listing at any cost, came off as a bit too obsequious.”
