Time for a Values Check-up?

World Values Day LogoDo you know what your values are? What do you hold dear? Have your values changed? Is there a mismatch between your behavior and what you believe are your values?

This exercise from MindTools.com will help you evaluate your values which, in turn, can help you make more meaningful decisions in your life.

According to the exercise: “As your definition of success changes, so do your personal values. This is why keeping in touch with your values is a lifelong exercise. You should continuously revisit this, especially if you start to feel unbalanced… and you can’t quite figure out why.”

This six step process is fairly straightforward and will help you clarify your values. Along the way you will:

  1. Identify the times when you were happiest
  2. Identify the times when you were most proud
  3. Identify the times when you were most fulfilled and satisfied
  4. Determine your top values, based on your experiences of happiness, pride, and fulfillment
  5. Prioritize your top values
  6. Reaffirm your values

Explore your values this week. You might be surprised to find out where you stand:

This is a great exercise to consider in advance of October 16th’s “World Values Day.”World Values Day is “an opportunity for us to think about our most deeply held values and to act on them. This year we are paying special attention to the values of groups and organisations, and how by truly putting those values into action we can help to change the world.”
